Appalachian Paddling Enthusiasts (APEs) is pleased to announce the next of its Paddle with the Pros clinics, this time by hosting a Beginner Whitewater Canoe Clinic with Eli Helbert. Eli has taken top honors at two World Championships, a World Cup, and a World Extreme Race, as well as numerous national and regional canoeing titles. He has taught courses throughout the U.S and abroad, including for the Nantahala Outdoor Center, La Ola School of Paddling in Germany and Austria, and the Oxford Riverside Center in England.
The Beginner Whitewater Canoe Course is designed for those interested in learning the fundamentals, strokes and river running techniques that will ensure a fun and safe time on the river. No experience is necessary. Instruction will consist of both flat water and on river instruction. The course will take place in the normal APEs watershed, to be determined as we get closer to the date. The class will be limited to 5 students. If you’re an aspiring open-boater this is your chance! COURSE PREREQUISITES: Participants should be in good health and overall fitness and possess solid swimming ability. Minimum age is 14.

TIME: 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. (EST)
COST: $125 for APEs/TEHCC members; $135 for non-APEs/TEHCC members (tuition includes APEs membership). Non-Refundable after June 18 unless replacement found.
CLASS SIZE: Classes will be limited to 5 participants
MEALS: Students are responsible for bringing their own lunch
MINIMUM PERSONAL GEAR: Whitewater canoe with floatation, type III PFD, whitewater helmet, paddle, protective clothing suitable for weather/water conditions, closed-toe protective footwear, drinking water, lunch/snacks in a waterproof bag, Loaner boats and gear are available on a first come basis.
REGISTRATION: There are two ways to register:

APEs (or TEHCC) membership is required to participate and can also be purchased online at http://www.riverapes.org/paypal-1.html for $10. No need to fill out and send in a separate membership form. Your online registration will double for that purpose.
2. Mail: Click Here to download the PDF Registration Form and mail in with payment made out to APEs to Scott Fisher: 109 Highland Gate Dr., Johnson City, TN 37615. Those mailing in their registration can add the $10 annual APEs membership fee to their course payment. No need to fill out and send in a separate membership form. Your registration form will double for that purpose.
