This Saturday (6/16/12) is the NOC’s Canoe Club Challenge #1 on theNantahalaRiver.  This is great time for our club to get together for some great paddling fun and create a paddling team to compete against other clubs!!  The slalom events really help hone your basic paddling skills on a course setup for novices and the downriver race is fun to go fast like Ricky Bobby!  Here is the event link with all the details and times for both the downriver race and the slalom gate race events:

Jen and I plan to compete in both the downriver and slalom races!  Join us on Team APE’s in one or both races to dominate all the other regional clubs!!  If you plan to compete in either event you will need to sign-up at the NOC between 10:00-10:50 A.M. near Slow Joe’s for your runs to count.  Please let me know if you plan to compete w/ Team APE’s!

APE’s is also going to offer a river trip for those who are first timers on the river or just not comfortable with downriver racing.  Jamison Evans andJerry Griffinare going to lead this trip.  Their trip plan is to meet at the NOC Raft Center on Saturday morning @ 10:30 A.M. to purchase a shuttle ride up to the put-in (Cost: $8).  This way everyone’s car will be at the take out when you are done with the river trip.  The takeout at the NOC will also be where the Canoe Club Challenge slalom race will occur, so you can compete in that race after the river trip with Team APE’s if you desire!

Please RSVP with Jamison ( 423-794-7482 or jamison.evans.1@facebook.com ) if you plan to join the APE’s Nanty River Trip on Saturday, so he can have a head count.

The weather forecast for Saturday at the NOC looks mild and sunny, but keep in mind that the river water is extremely cold!  Dress appropriately with that in mind for the river trip or race events.  Hope to see you on the Nanty and join Team APE’s!!
