Spokane River Gauge:
The Spokane River level is determined by dam releases at the Post Falls Avista operated Dam. The release schedule is not predictable as Avista operates without any requirement for recreational or ecological flows. Inflows to the Coeur d’Alene River and St. Joe River drainages feed into Coeur D’Alene Lake which by regulation is required to maintain lake levels during summer recreational months. As such the outflow from the lake into the Spokane River is unpredictable at best.
Spokane River at Post Falls Dam Gauge: The best reference for all park and play opportunities on the upper Spokane River
Spokane River at Downtown Spokane: The best reference for all Lower Spokane kayaking. Due to the aquifer interchange in the upper Spokane stretch of river we need to rely on a separate gauge for the lower Spokane River.
