The Legendary Chris Hipgrave is joining the APEs for a GO FAST Session on the Nolichucky Gorge!

Appalachian Paddling Enthusiasts (APEs) is pleased to announce its first kayak racing clinic with Chris Hipgrave from the Nantahala Outdoor Center. Chris is the current Ocoee Race Champion two years running and is on the Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine Athlete Team. His name is always toward the top of the results in any race he enters!! This one day course is designed for the intermediate/advanced boater and will focus on river running in modern whitewater racing kayaks in the context of a river trip. It will be held on the Nolichucky Gorge in Erwin, TN. We will meet at USA Raft at 11am and should be done by late afternoon. Participants should be comfortable on class III water and have a reliable roll. Course will be limited to 14 students. This course will likely fill up fast so be sure you register to reserve your spot.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: Paddle with and learn from Chris Hipgrave to GO FAST—need we say more?!?
COURSE PREREQUISITES: Students should be proficient in class III whitewater, have winter paddling gear, and have a solid roll. Participants should be in good health and overall fitness and possess solid swimming ability. Min age is 14 and accompanied by parent/guardian.

WHEN: Sat, Feb 13, 2016
TIME: Meet at 11:00 A.M. for a full day clinic
COST: Clinic is FREE for APE’s (or TEHCC) members , but all participants will split USA Shuttle cost ($50.00), so bring some cash.
CLASS SIZE: Classes will be limited to 14 participants
MEALS: Students are responsible for their own lunch on the river. We may have a BBQ dinner at the USA Raft take-out at the conclusion of the day if there is enough interest.
LODGING: Bunkhouse rooms available at take-out at USA Raft. Contact directly at 423-743-7111.

MINIMUM PERSONAL GEAR: Whitewater racing kayak (+10′-0″), type III PFD, whitewater helmet, paddle, sprayskirt, protective winter clothing suitable for weather/water conditions, closed-toe protective footwear, whistle, throw rope, drinking water, lunch/snacks in a waterproof bag
Chris and the Jackson Action Wagon will have a few extra long boats for folks to borrow during this clinic on a first come first serve basis. Contact Wesley to make long boat RSVP.

This clinic is FREE for APE’s (or TEHCC) members , so you can ignore this page and close your web browser. No need to fill out and send in a separate membership form. Your online registration will double for that purpose.

Those mailing in their registration can add the $10 annual APEs membership fee check to their form. No need to fill out and send in a separate membership form.
