The Cody boaters showed up to support our first Hometown Throwdown Event! With temperature dropping, and rain clouds brewing, boaters gathered at the Demaris takeout around 5:30pm. Due to the low river levels, it was decided the class IV section of the Shoshone would provide the group with the best feature for a good ol’ fashion Big-Air competition. The event was staged at Nintendo Rapid. Each rider had ten opportunities to plunge their boat into the hole in an attempt to get the most air possible. The rides started off slow. There were a few decent enders, a very mysterious mystery move, and much carping. Then charing toward the hole, gliding through the slackwater, Ed Conning pile drives his ancient longboat deep within, and out came one of the most picture perfect pirouettes of the event. The other riders knew they would have to step up their game. Riders Jerod Ready and Destin Harrell threw a few massive loops in their creekboats, but neither could quite reach maximum altitude. Much fun was had by all. Looking forward to the next Throwdown on June 3, 2015.
