Yes, We kayak with Snow!

The 2nd HTTD of the season brought 20 paddlers together at Wausau Whitewater Park in early May. We were excited to have such a great turnout still on Sunday even though many of the area boaters went north to catch the last bit of the spring run off. Craig esposito took first place after nailing a splitwheel at hole #4. With little drop in need of some construction and the water level higher than usual, hole #4 was the place to be. Looping, splitwheels, Right AND left cartwheels were all in the bag of tricks for the throwdown and beginners enjoyed the feature as well spinning again and again.

But that’s not all that’s been going on here in the Midwest. The Annual Rada Memorial Race on the Presque gathered the top creekers from the shoreline together. In order to run the final 20 Manabezo Waterfall, some work had to be done and the guys sawed out the tree blocking the river left line. A wonderful reuinion of guys, some who knew Rada and others who wish they could have had the honor of paddling with him. He is missed dearly and we all live through his paddling guide of the shorline rivers. John McConville won the race which is no surprise as he also won the Lester Race just a month ago.

But there is even more kayaking news! This weekend Heather Herbeck from Jackson Kayak will be back in her hometown and teaching a women’s clinic on the Kettle River. What else is great about this? Kettlefest is happening the same time!! We will host HTTD #3 at Kettlefest on Sunday and there is a downriver race on saturday! Of Course, it’s all about paddling together and enjoying time on the water, the level is great right now, about 3,000cfs, which makes for some fantastic play on the river. I’ll enjoy playing in my 2013 Rockstar until the sun goes down.  So I’ll see you all on the River!
