January 26 - Clear Creek race. If buy chance there's no water, there's a makeup date of Feb 2.
But as long as it's above the minimum level, the race is still on! This race will be from the
top of Lilly rapid to the bottom of Wootens Folly. This is a short Sprint through class 3
water. It will be a good introductory race to start the series.
For this race, we will all meet at the Nemo take out at 9am Central Standard time. We will have
several vehicles to provide shuttle. Before we shuttle, I will go over the rules and guidelines
for this race. Then we will go to the top, divide into heats, and race full on. This
is a head to head race with up to five paddlers per heat. All boats are welcome, however any boat
under 7' will be considered a short boat, and anything over will be a long boat. Dynamic Duo's
and open boats welcome. I'd really like for everyone that's planning on racing, to go register
online first. Please! It will only make my job easier with getting your scores in. In order to
race you do have to be registered. Walk-ons discouraged but accepted. Don't be that guy.Just go
online and register!
Below are directions to the put/in take/out. I'm really looking forward to seeing everybody out
at my first annual World Kayak Hometown Throwdown Clear Creek Race!
The take-out for Clear Creek is actually on the Emory River at the old Nemo Bridge. From the town
of Wartburg (will find a National Park visitor center here), follow the signs to the Nemo Access
from Old Highway 27 and head out the southwest corner of town and continue 6.0 miles down to the
river. Ample parking and a nice day-use area with changing area and picnic tables can be found
upstream river left of the old Nemo Bridge. This is a great meeting point and place to hangout
after your run. To reach the put-in, head back up to Old Highway 27 and go west 1.9 miles and
turn up onto Highway 27 and after 3.3 miles turn left onto Highway 62. Follow this road 9.1 miles
to the turn for Lilly Access (marked by a sign). The road to this access winds 3.3 miles down to
the river. You will find parking downstream river left of the bridge.
