Regional Rivers

Cartecay River

Less than an hour north of Atlanta, the Cartecay is an ideal learning river in this region. With multiple class II rapids on this scenic run, the Cartecay offers good locations to practice skills and have fun running a drop at S-Turn and a slide at Blackberry Falls.


Ocoee River

The Ocoee is non-stop fun for intermediate paddlers. This damn-released river in Tennessee is only a 2-hour drive north from Atlanta.


Chattooga River

Two hours northeast of Atlanta - at the Georgia/South Carolina border - the Chattooga offers intermediate and advanced boaters plenty of excitement on Section 3, Section 3.5, and Section 4.

    Cheoah Release Dates - 2008

    In 2008 the Cheoah River in North Carolina will be releasing one weekend per month in February and March, two weekends in April, THREE weekends in May, and then one day per month in August and October.

    Upper Chattooga Update: U.S. Forest Service Plans December Release of Environmental Assessment

    The U.S. Forest Service announced Nov. 7, 2007, that it will release an Environmental Assessment (EA) of recreation uses on the upper Chattooga River in mid-December. The agency had originally planned to release the EA this month.
