Atlanta / Georgia

Welcome to the Atlanta / Georgia region

Click here for info on kayaking clubs, lessons and gear shops.
The metro Atlanta region has something for every kind of paddler: playboaters, river runners, open boaters, sea kayakers, sit-on-top paddlers, and kayak fishermen and photographers.

Atlanta, Ga. is close to almost every in the south east. For whitewater this includes a two hour or less drive to the Chattooga River Drainage, Little River Canyon, the Ocoee, the wave in Columbus Ga. and Chattanooga area rivers and creeks!

Areas a little over two hours and under 3.5 hours of driving from this area is every drainage west of Charolette NC. Including everything around Asheville and as far North as the Nolichucky now thanks to the new part of I26.

I hope WW kayakers can use this web site to find each other and make new creeking and surfing buddies in and around the atlanta region.

Regional Rivers

Cartecay River

Less than an hour north of Atlanta, the Cartecay is an ideal learning river in this region. With multiple class II rapids on this scenic run, the Cartecay offers good locations to practice skills and have fun running a drop at S-Turn and a slide at Blackberry Falls.

Ocoee River

The Ocoee is non-stop fun for intermediate paddlers. This damn-released river in Tennessee is only a 2-hour drive north from Atlanta.

Chattooga River

Two hours northeast of Atlanta - at the Georgia/South Carolina border - the Chattooga offers intermediate and advanced boaters plenty of excitement on Section 3, Section 3.5, and Section 4.

      Getting to know Trevor Clark

Jun 12 09 - Over the course of my life as a kayaker there have been a few notable photographers that have provided the imagery for our sport. Jock Bradley and Paul Villecourt are the two that stand out in my mind. Last year at the Reno River Festival I was introduced to Trevor Clark. He was kind enough to shoot one of our World Kayak hometown throwdowns. Needles to say I was impressed with the images he captured. Over the course of last season the quality of the images that Trevor continued to generate did not disappoint. Not only is Trevor an extremely accomplished photographer but he is an extremely good boater as well.
